Introducing Rhea v0.1.0
Rhea’s first public release is being prepared for C++ developers who want to explore a modular engine for virtual worlds and interactive 3D applications, build small applications, and provide early feedback.
This page describes the planned release. Publication will be announced through GitHub Releases.
Start with a working example
BasicApp demonstrates a scene with a camera, lighting, and a textured cube. Follow Getting Started to build and run it, then change the sample to explore the engine. No editor or external scene package is required for BasicApp.
The release includes the Rhea runtime, its modular Fabric architecture, the Poseidon rendering stack, and physics and audio integrations. An editor is not included.
Tested configurations
The engine and BasicApp have been built and run in these configurations:
| Environment | Graphics backend |
|---|---|
| Windows | Direct3D 11 |
| Windows | OpenGL |
| Linux under WSL | OpenGL |
Native Linux installations and macOS have not been validated for this release. These results apply to the engine and BasicApp; other applications and configurations may require additional setup.
Scene exploration and next steps
Ceto is an experimental viewer for user-provided scenes. It runs, but no demonstration scene is included. Scene-File authoring and a complete viewer walkthrough are planned documentation improvements.
Experimental release
Rhea is experimental and under active development. APIs, scene formats, and build configuration may change, and backward compatibility is not guaranteed. See Project Status and the Roadmap for limitations and planned work.
Feedback is welcome through the GitHub issue tracker. Include the engine revision, operating system, compiler, graphics backend, reproduction steps, and relevant logs.
