Project Status
Rhea is experimental and under active development. You can explore scenes with Ceto or build applications with C++ and provide feedback. API compatibility is not yet guaranteed.
Current scope
The repository contains the application runtime, scene and component model, resource loading, the Poseidon rendering stack, and physics and audio integrations. Features differ in maturity; their presence in the repository does not imply that every configuration has been validated.
For scene exploration without C++, First steps with Ceto describes the v0.2.0 Windows x64 ZIP, including the Courtyard example, file browser, and editing exercises. Version 0.2.0 is published as an experimental prerelease; the guide links to the Windows download and GitHub release.
The standalone Windows Release build, scene loading, ZIP packaging, and local extract-start-open workflow have been checked. The package was reported working on a Windows system without development tools. Manual testing also confirmed scene transitions in Novara and opening a valid file after an invalid-file error. The full editing walkthrough also remains to be verified.
The C++ introductory workflow uses BasicApp to build a scene with a camera, lighting, and a textured cube. Your First Project extends that workflow into an independent application.
Platforms and validation
The engine and BasicApp have been built and run on Windows with Direct3D 11 and OpenGL, and on Linux under WSL with OpenGL. These checks do not establish validation on native Linux installations or macOS. Compiler versions and validation of the separate website tutorials remain to be documented.
The current engine revision with BasicApp API and GUI font-path fixes also built in a separate WSL Release configuration. All three Poseidon samples completed ten OpenGL frames under WSLg. BasicApp initialized its scene and Ceto initialized its GUI and loaded Courtyard in bounded startup checks. Interactive and visual checks and normal shutdown were not covered by those timeout-stopped runs.
Known limitations
- An editor is planned but is not included in the initial public release.
- APIs, resource formats, and build configuration may change.
- The website tutorials are documentation drafts until their clean-build and runtime checks are complete.
- The Ceto v0.2.0 package targets Windows x64. A manual test without development tools passed; the WSL checks validate a separate Linux build, not this Windows archive.
- The Ceto walkthrough targets v0.2.0 and its release candidates, not v0.1.1.
- No stable release or compatibility commitment is announced on this website yet.
Feedback
See the v0.2.0 overview for the Ceto package scope and pending validation.
Use the engine issue tracker to report problems. Include your engine revision, operating system, compiler, graphics backend, relevant output, and steps to reproduce the problem.
